CHARLOTTE ERIKSSON
You read and write and sing and experience, thinking that one day these things will build the character you admire to live as. You love and lose and bleed best you can, to the extreme, hoping that one day the world will read you like the poem you want to be.

ANDRÉ BRETON (2)
Poetry is made in bed like love. Its unmade sheets are the dawn of things.
In literature, I was successively taken with Rimbaud, with Jarry, with Apollinaire, with Nouveau, with Lautréamont, but it is Jacques Vaché to whom I owe the most.

But it is the province of religion, of philosophy, of pure poetry only, to go beyond life, beyond time, into eternity.

That's what Honfleur has taught me; the further I find myself from her, the further I am from all poetry.

STÉPHANE MALLARMÉ (4)
It's the job of poetry to clean up our word-clogged reality by creating silences around things.
There is only beauty and it has only one perfect expression: poetry. All the rest is a lie except for those who live by the body, love, and, that love of the mind, friendship. For me, Poetry takes the place of love, because it is enamored of itself, and because its sensual delight falls back deliciously in my soul.
Poetry is the language of a state of crisis.
Verse is everywhere in language where there is rhythm, everywhere, except in notices and on page four of the papers. In the genre called prose, there are verses [...] of all rhythms. But in truth there is no prose: there is the alphabet, and then verses more or less tight, more or less diffuse.

GEORGES PERROS (3)
The poet has no memory what so ever. The poet ís a memory.
Victor Hugo was a madman who thought he was Victor Hugo” Jean Cocteau
The most beautiful poem in the world will never be but a pale reflection of what we call poetry, which is a way of being, or, as someone else would put it, a way of living.
Poetry is in the streets, in the drains, it's entirely disposed of hierarchy, it doesn't know. It doesn't know anything. It is the song of our ignorance.

Once, poets were magicians. Poets were strong, stronger than warriors or kings — stronger than old hapless gods. And they will be strong once again.

BERTUS AAFJES
There are poets who exactly know how to evoke emotion, which they force, and by doing so they mostly possess a natural modesty, which takes away away every witfulness from this 'tour de force'. It's probably no coincidence that female poets excell in this quality.
